It’s back to school! After a nice long summer of such sunny weather I hope we will be able to get used to the early mornings and schedule of school. It should be a wonderful year! Welcome.

Everyone was busy all summer to make sure the opening of school was uneventful and the school was clean and ready for the students’ arrival. This year four new faculty members have joined our staff. Please welcome, Ann Marie Linnen, our new third grade special education teacher and Kayla Parker, our physical education teacher, replacing Kathy Harvey who has retired, Devyn McGrew, our preschool teacher and Grissel Travieso-Dipini, our 4-5th grade Spanish teacher.

Our district professional development goal this year is Social Emotional Learning. By continuing our weekly Second Step program at Conley School and incorporating a variety of special activities and lessons concerning empathy, communication, bullying prevention, coping skills, and decision making, we will not only reinforce positive social emotional development in our students, but develop a respectful, caring culture at Conley School.

STEAM continues to be a favorite hands-on course of our 3rd-5th grade students. Using Project Lead the Way, our 3rd graders will study Stability and Motion, which includes the science of flight and simple and compound machines. You can imagine the fun they will have! In 4th grade students will study Energy: Collisions and Conversions and in 5th grade students will learn about Robotics and Automation. Handwriting too, will continue to be taught school-wide every morning for 10-15 minutes.

Please join us in partnership as we assist our students, your children, in navigating their elementary school world and taking advantage of all Conley School has to offer. Together we can promote a respectful culture and community of happy learning at the elementary school.
